Measure a workflow before improving it

A dramatic improvement claim needs a defined unit of work. Measure the same kind of accepted case before and after a change, including the work people do around the tool.

Define the unit

Choose a completed, accepted case and write down its start and finish. For an inquiry workflow, that might be a request received through a founder-approved response, not just the time to generate a draft.

Capture the whole process

Record elapsed time, active staff time, review, corrections, exceptions, software usage and direct costs. Track whether the result was correct and accepted. Keep the sample size and case mix alongside the numbers.

Compare like with like

Use representative cases and the same acceptance criteria in both periods. Separate a faster individual step from improvement to the entire workflow. A 100x target can guide an experiment, but it is not a universal productivity or revenue promise.

Make the evidence useful

Report the unit, dates, sample size, limits and total cost. Investigate failures and rework before expanding. If the sample is too small or the cases differ, say what remains unknown.
